Grandpa Misha's Story

82 years old Mikheil Iluridze (Grandpa Misha) is a beneficiary of social enterprise “House Without Borders” funded by ASB Georgia. He is one of the constant inhabitants of the elderly shelter. Mikheil recalls that is was extremely hard for him to make a decision about abandoning self-build house. He did not want to bury in oblivion 47 years, he spent here together with his beloved wife.

Mikheil took care of his bed-ridden spouse till the very end, but there was no one left for him to look after. Children went away from the village and neighbors could not assist him frequently enough. After being diagnosed with heart disease, it became harder for Mikheil to stay in charge of household chores. Left alone he could not follow doctors` assignment precisely and was not able to visit medical establishments on a regular basis. Mentioned struggles made him to move in social enterprise “house without borders”.

“I like being here, nurses have our medical schedule noted and take care of us. They have day as well as night shift and do not take attention from as for even a while” – says Mikheil when he talks about place he currently lives in.

Nowadays grandpa Misha is actively involved in everyday life of the elderly shelter. He enjoys entertaining beneficiaries and guests with his stories and is always ready to help others. Mikheil takes part in decorating yard of the shelter, attends various events and spends elderly years in a friendly atmosphere.
