Evacuation Simulation at "M2 Tamarashvili"

ASB Georgia and the real estate company M2 organized an earthquake evacuation drill at the apartment complex called “M2 Tamarashvili” on Saturday, December 16. Apartment residents first learned the main rules on how to act in case of different natural disasters and then they all had the opportunity to participate in the drill.

The evacuation closely resembled the real situation during the natural disaster, as emergency call alarmed everyone in and outside the buildings, the elevators stayed on the ground floor to prevent people from using it. The drill turned out to be interesting for youngsters as well as for older people. Most of them had never participated in such activity before.

Representatives of the Emergency Management Agency were actively involved in the process of carrying the evacuation out. It was the first time when Governmental, non-governmental and private sector combined their strengths to increase awareness of Georgian population about natural disasters.

The event involved extinguishing the artificial fire, evacuating a wheelchair user disability and using an emergency ladder for “rescuing” people “trapped” on the 6th floor.

After emptying the building successfully, participants stayed to socialize at the afterparty organized in their yard. The pleasant music, a professional photographer, Gif camera and catering created a nice atmosphere for the residents to share their experience and impressions with each other and the local media.

The earthquake evacuation drill was organized under the project “We Are Ready! - Disability Inclusive DRR Education for a Culture of Safety”, which is financed by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations.
